The term sustainability goes back to the Freiberger Oberberghauptmann Carl von Carlowitz (1645-1714) and the forestry. According to Carlowitz, only as much forest should be cleared in a forest as it could naturally regenerate within a certain time.’’ This definition has become very popular, especially because it limits itself to an aspect which can be easily translated into an image and transferred to other areas of life.
